Yummy Surinam cherry season in Maui!
Surinam Cherry, Eugenia uniflora L is part of the Myrtaceae family and also known by the name pitanga. This vibrant little cherries originated from Brazil, yet are now found in many tropical areas of the world, including Maui and the other Hawaiian Islands. These cherries have pits and are also loved by bugs, so look out before eating! These sweet, sour, and tangy fruits are rich in flavonoids, antioxidants, and vitamin C.
